About the event
In recent years, racism and transphobia have been increasingly mainstreamed within UK politics, with hard-won protections coming under attack. Yet Black and trans perspectives hold promise for deepening understanding and building new solidarities in the face of shared vulnerabilities.
This free workshop explores how art, culture and scholarship produced by Black and trans people can help us to understand our current political moment. Drawing on Stuart Hall, we understand this as ‘a conjuncture’: ‘a period during which the different social, political, economic and ideological contradictions that are at work in society come together to give it a specific and distinctive shape.’
