Westminster LGBT+ Forum member Peter Herbert has reviewed Tenderness and Rage, a powerful multimedia exhibition at the Wellcome Collection, for Queerguru.
Peter describes an exhibition that reflects on how HIV and AIDS disrupted countless lives during the UK epidemic of the 1980s and 1990s, while also recognising the care, solidarity and activism that emerged in response. Read Peter Herbert’s full review on Queerguru.
Through photography, film and archival material, Tenderness and Rage connects personal experiences of love and care with campaigns for dignity, equal rights and access to treatment. Highlights include Gideon Mendel’s photographs of patients at the Middlesex Hospital’s AIDS wards, accounts from HIV activists around the world, material documenting ACT UP London protests and stories from women living with HIV.
