About the event
Join actor Russell Tovey and peer Lord Cashman for the 'Lord Etherton Lecture: Lifting The LGBT Ban' followed by audience Q&A, programmed in partnership with Fighting With Pride and in association with Queer Britain Museum.
Delivered for the first time, the lecture will acknowledge the experiences of LGBT veterans in the British Armed Forces prior to the lifting of the ban in 2000 and appeal for a more inclusive future. This event concludes our past year of IWM activities, marking the 25th anniversary of Lifting The Ban.

The Etherton Lecture
In 2023, the UK government published an independent review by Lord Etherton into the experiences of LGBT veterans who served in the Armed Forces during the 'gay ban' on LGBT personnel.
